Ethereum Layer 2 Network Eclipse Open Public Mainnet with SVM Architecture

The Ethereum Layer 2 network Eclipse, supported by Solana Virtual Machine (SVM) technology, announced on Thursday that its public mainnet has been launched, with over 60 decentralized applications (dApps) and service providers enabled on the network, allowing users to experience Solana's speed on Ethereum.

Eclipse combines Solana's high-speed and parallel execution with Ethereum's security and liquidity, with the goal of becoming the "best place for dApps" and addressing the issues of liquidity and developer decentralization in both ecosystems. The scaling solution also utilizes Celestia to achieve data availability and uses RISC Zero to establish zero knowledge (ZK) proofs for SVM execution.

The Eclipse mainnet was previously open to developers in July and has been open to the public since November 7th. Some of the larger decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols in the Solana ecosystem have already been launched on Eclipse, such as Orca and Save (formerly Solend).

Eclipse has raised $65 million in three rounds of funding, with the most recent round being a $50 million funding led by Hack VC and Placeholder in March of this year. In July of this year, there were reports that cryptocurrency venture capital firm Polychain accused its former general partner Niraj Pant of entering into a behind the scenes deal with Eclipse Labs, a development company. The controversial former Eclipse Labs CEO Neel Somani denied these allegations and resigned in May due to allegations of inappropriate sexual behavior.

Asset bridging

According to the announcement, wallets that support Eclipse include Backpack, Nightly, and Salmon Wallet. Users can use the official cross chain bridge to connect Ethereum (ETH) from the Ethereum main bridge to Eclipse, while USDC, USDT, Wbtc on the Ethereum main network or SOL, USDC, WIF on Solana can be bridged using Hyperlane's cross chain protocol. Other supported cross chain protocols include Owlto and Gas Zip and Orbiter.

The official gas token of Eclipse is ETH, and users can choose to obtain ETH through its "Gas Station" on Eclipse. This feature allows users to bridge other tokens and automatically exchange a portion of these tokens for ETH to earn gas fees.

In order to introduce liquidity re collateralization tokens (LRT) into the ecosystem, Eclipse has partnered with Nucleus to launch a unified re collateralization token tETH. Users can deposit EtherFi's eETH, Renzo's ezETH, Swell's rswETH, Dinero's steakETH, or Puffer's pufETH on the official minting platform to mint tETH.
