Sky plans to reshape its brand again after receiving feedback from the community, possibly changing

The decentralized financial protocol Sky is considering further brand changes after evaluating the community's feedback on the initial brand reshaping. Sky founder Rune Christensen proposed three options, including restoring the brand name to Maker.

MakerDAO is a decentralized autonomous organization behind the US dollar stablecoin DAI, which was renamed Sky in September of this year. In the process of brand reshaping, DAI holders can choose to upgrade their coins to the new stablecoin Sky Dollar (USDS) at a 1:1 exchange ratio, while MakerDAO's governance token MKR can be converted to SKY tokens at a 1:24000 ratio, and users can still continue to use their original DAI and MKR tokens.

Rune Christensen stated that some community members have reservations about the utility of the SKY token and are aware that the various new reward systems and platform features introduced in the SKY token roadmap may be difficult to understand. He stated on social media platform X that "using Sky as the name for the protocol, token, and frontend has indeed caused some confusion," and mentioned that many community members still prefer to hold MKR rather than upgrade to SKY.

Meanwhile, Christensen acknowledges that the community has a strong sense of identification with the Maker brand, and suggests that while maintaining the different roles of Maker and Sky, repositioning Maker may be beneficial.

Just two weeks after the issuance of USDS, the total supply has exceeded 1 billion, and the stablecoin has been integrated into major DeFi protocols such as Aave, Ethena, and Morpho. The current total supply of DAI is 5 billion US dollars.

Sky's Future

Christensen proposed three options for the community: the first is to continue building with Sky as the core brand, the second is to refocus on Maker as the core brand in its original form (this option will reintroduce MKR as the sole governance token for DAO), and the third option is to reintroduce Maker as the core brand with minor adjustments to better align with USDS and the subDAO called Stars.

Sky plans to hold a community conference call this Friday to discuss various options. Christensen wrote:

After the community conference call, I will incorporate all feedback and propose implementing this idea through Atlas Edit. Voting can begin on October 28th, and if approved, multiple choice voting will be initiated within the week starting on November 4th

Christensen pointed out that if the community chooses to rebrand again, the protocol will consider new changes in token economics as the next step.
